General presentation
The Observatory of the Sea is the center of INSTM for the diffusion and development of scientific information. It is a research structure and an instrument for decision support which has been created since 1992. It functions in connection with the Tunisian observatory for environment and development [OTED]. The specificity of Observatory of the Sea lies in its entirely marine vocation..

Objectives
The data series collected for years on the aquatic environments are often underused, because they are stored under various formats or scattered in research premises. The observatory of the sea was born to facilitate the accessibility of marine information, to exploit oceanographic data in order to make them useful and available, to improve the spread of scientific knowledge and the diffusion of information, and to develop research and its results.

Actions

Generation and centralization of raw databases developed by the researchers through the use of INTERNET and INTRANET gateways to access the computers of the researchers who generate these bases.
Development of a standard cartographic base which will serve as a support to scientists so as to develop thematic data sets.
Development of thematic cartographic bases by using the Geographical Information systems, related to the results of research on the marine environment.
Contribution to provide specialized information for the community as well as decision support tools for a sustainable management of the aquatic ecosystems in Tunisia.

Users
The users of the Observatory of the Sea are the researchers who generate data and the users of the Tunisian aquatic systems [ professionals, developers, decision makers]
