A fascinating world to discover
The history of the Oceanographic Museum of Salammbô "DAR
EL HOUT" dates from the beginning of the 20th century. It was
built in 1924 on a site described as being one of most beautiful
and more symbolic sites of Tunisia: near the ruins of antique Carthage,
the palace of Suffétes of the Sea. A big effort was undertaken to restore
and modify the rooms of the Museum so that they present, to the
public, the wonders of the sea in a pedagogical and spectacular
order. Thus this place of history and science will continue to work
towards the conservation of national maritime heritage and towards
the progress of research and knowledge.
