Dar el Hout Museum

A fascinating world to discover
The history of the Oceanographic Museum of Salammbô "DAR EL HOUT" dates from the beginning of the 20th century. It was built in 1924 on a site described as being one of most beautiful and more symbolic sites of Tunisia: near the ruins of antique Carthage, the palace of Suffétes of the Sea. A big effort was undertaken to restore and modify the rooms of the Museum so that they present, to the public, the wonders of the sea in a pedagogical and spectacular order. Thus this place of history and science will continue to work towards the conservation of national maritime heritage and towards the progress of research and knowledge.

There are 11 rooms in the Museum :

 R1 : Tunisia a marine Country
R2 : Tunisia and the Mediterranean
 R3 : Fresh water Aquariums
 R4 : Tunisian Lagoons
 R5 : Eel Migration
R6 : Islands and protected species
 R7 : The coast
 R8 : Bird communities
 R9 : Fishing Techniques
 R10 : Fishes
 R11 : Sea water Aquariums
